Kimberley with the creator of Zumba, Beto Perez, July 2011, Orlando
Biography- Kimberley Marie Harrison
Kimberley first became interested in dance as soon as she was able to walk, taking classical ballet classes and later moving on to Modern Dance throughout school.
She took her Physical Education Association certificate in Exercise and Health studies, run by Loughborough University in England, 1993.
In the same year she took her RSA certificate in Exercise to Music.
This began a happy career in the UK, teaching Aerobics, step, Body sculpt and Fitbox. Mainly hiring her own venues and promoting her classes like that. The classes grew whilst she continued to attend regular workshops with organisations like Fitness Professionals and Reebok in her bid to continue improving her teaching knowledge and skills. She presented many Step Masterclasses and workshops during this period.
She also ran weight loss seminars and presentations during this time through her own company which proved very popular and great fun.
She then moved to Barcelona where, unfortunately, she suffered a calf injury which put a stop to teaching exercise on a professional level for a few years, but as she recovered, her interest in Latin dance had it’s chance to develop and she was hooked.
On moving from the centre of Barcelona to Vilafranca del Penedes, she began teaching again, this time the focus being on fitness through Latin dance. This time it was on a part time basis while having a small corporate language teaching company.
Kimberley moved from Barcelona to Alicante in July 2008 and made the decision to return full time to fitness teaching. Once again, building private group classes up in the Costa Blanca area.
She qualified on the first Spanish certification course with ZUMBA in July 2009, and looks forward to being at the forefront of developing ZUMBA in Spain during the next few years. Her classes have been consistently busy and buzzing since then, stretching further through the Costa Blanca.
In July 2011 Kimberley went to Orlando, USA, to train as Spain’s first Zumba Jammer. She is excited about helping the Zumba family in Spain grow and work together to bring the same fun and joy there as so many other countries have already experienced.
There have been many charity events raising money and awareness for various organisations like APASA (Javea dog shelter), the Children’s leukemia association, AECC and the Benissa children’s shelter to name a few. She is a Zumba Instructor Network member and member of IDEA and FEDA, which keeps her at the cutting edge of fitness developments.
